OUTDOOR RESEARCH WOMEN'S ECHO TEE REVIEW

The Outdoor Research Women's Echo Tee has become my number one pick for any aerobic activity. From working out at the gym to multi-day backpacking this shirt is the best wicking and lightweight shirt I have ever owned.

Outdoor Research Echo Tee
Sizes: XS-XL
Colours:Apple/Laurel,Cornflower/Night,DesertSunrise/Paradise,Pewter,Ultraviolet/Elderberry
Price: $40 CDN
Weight: 2.3oz/65g

Why am I doing a review on a t-shirt? A t-shirt is a t-shirt. Nope! The OR Echo Tee has become my 'go-to' shirt for all things sweaty and aerobic. My collection of these t-shirts has grown to six shirts over the past few years. The sixth one is missing from the photo below as it was in the wash!
PROS:

Lightweight- at 2.3oz/65g a shirt, they are one of, if not the lightest of the wicking shirts on the market. I was weighing my clothing before a recent backpacking trip and couldn't find a shirt in my collection that was lighter. When wearing the shirt, it feels like lighter than any other shirt you own.

Wicking-After removing a backpack, the sweaty back t-shirt often makes me feel chilled or gross. Almost instantaneously, the Echo tee dries. Feeling wet for long periods is rare, if at all, including the underarms. The tee includes a Polygeine odor control component which is much appreciated after 9 days straight on the trail.

Fit-I love the fit of these shirts. They are long in length, and aren't too clingy or baggy. I have had no problems with chaffing or rubbing of pack straps while wearing this tee. It also fits well under a climbing harness.

Colour selection-I love the different colours that this tee comes in. I almost have every colour in the rainbow!

Hip pocket-There is a small hip pocket in this tee. It fits a key or a small fitness type GPS inside while on trail runs or short hikes without a pack.

Variations-This tee also comes in a
graphic version and a longsleeve version.

CONS:

Durability- Lightweight fabrics have one downside. Small holes start to form when wearing these shirts under other gear. I have one shirt that after weeks of hard use, has accumulated holes from repeatedly clipping my backpack waist belt together as well as wearing a gear rack while climbing. I have other Echo t-shirts that I wear for work or regular fitness training that are still in perfect condition. I find the issues pop up while wearing gear over or on top of fabric, a trade off for being a lightweight material.

UPF rating-This lightweight shirt has a UPF rating of 15, which for the most part is fine but I find in harsh UV conditions, I found it was in sufficient. That said, in those harsh UV conditions, the wicking and lightweight attributes of these materials far outweigh the slight sun exposure.

In conclusion, I think these t-shirts ROCK! Living in the humid east coast, these shirts shine when high heart rates combine with high humidex factors. I would highly recommend these shirts for anyone wanting to feel less sweaty while pursueing aerobic endeavours. Thanks to Outdoor Research for another great product.
